Spirit 2.0 by Sampha
Wow, wow, wow, Readers! It is 2024 and I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Lots of really cool things happened.
In 2023…
We read 11 books together
That’s a lot of books. Go us!
We crossed 200 subscribers
This? This is the most astonishing thing to me. 200+ of you are receiving my book club newsletter and quite a few of you check it out and open the links. It means the world to me!
I did a couple interviews
I interviewed the editors of When I Was Me: Moments of Gender Euphoria, the book cover artist of Other Terrors: An Inclusive Anthology and Indigenous author, Dani H. Trujillo. It was so lovely to conduct these interviews and learn more about each person and project. Here’s hoping more people say yes to me in 2024.
I wrote some short stories
I wrote a short story for Halloween, but it wasn’t the only thing I was working on. This year I’m hoping to finish some projects and table at a zine fest. Wish me luck.
Our Storygraph Challenge was a success
We ended the year with 7 participants and 31 books added. Check out the full challenge here with all the books we’ve added. You can join in for 2024’s Challenge right here and share other anthologies you read throughout the year.
We gave to charity
I gave away a stack of Queerthology books to Monday Night Queerball’s Saturnalia event and helped raised over $700 for Gaza. If you’re interested in growing our little library for future events like this here’s our registry. If you’re broke it’s cool, just pass the link along to someone who can afford it.
If you’re curious about my reading life outside of Queerthology or you are interested in my other romance book club, which reads diverse romance all year and has its own reading challenge you can check these links out ❤
2024
Given the weirdness going on with Substack and Naz!s, I've had to give a good think whether I want to be on this platform. After some thought and reflection, I've decided that for now I’ll stay. I have, however, removed the option to have a paid subscription here.
If you're interested in continuing to be a supporter then you can do that through my Kofi. You can leave me a one-time donation or you can become a monthly member in order to support the book club and you get to have a couple of sweet perks. Do check it out 👇🏽
For example Becoming a member now means you get to see the full line up of Queerthology Books for 2024 and the full playlist for the 2023 newsletter posts. You’ll also receive some cool stuff in the mail near the end of January/beginning of February 💌
Queerthology is something I love so much and want to continue doing for as long as I possibly can. I’ve read great books, had great conversations, made wonderful friends and challenged myself to be more creative than ever. I’m really excited for the books we’ll read together in 2024, all the folks you’ll get to meet through guests posts and other stuff I have cooking up.
So TLDR: The best way to support me? Read along and tell me how it’s going. Second best? Like and share. Want and can to do more? Become a supporter on Kofi. If I end up having to move to a different platform, it’ll be that much easier with your support. Ok, that’s all from me!
Thank you for being here, dear friends.
Kris
If you’ve made it this far then let me know what your favorite Queerthology read was this year and give me a little love (aka like this post) before you go! 🖤
Happy New Year! I’m so glad to be a part of this book club. It feels more like community than just a “club” and I appreciate all the effort you put into it. Here’s to another great year of reading and talking about QTBIPOC with folks! 🏳️🌈❤️👏🏼
